Muscatine is preparing for a full day of patriotic celebration on Saturday, July 4, as the community marks both Independence Day and the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States.
Festivities will begin at 8 a.m. with the Red, White & Ball 3-on-3 Youth Basketball Tournament on the riverfront, followed by the annual Children’s March at 9 a.m. Young participants will parade down Second Street from Pine Street to Musser Public Library before enjoying popsicles, chalk activities and bubbles.
The annual Community Parade steps off at 4 p.m. in downtown Muscatine, featuring floats, classic cars and local organizations. Organizers are offering a $500 prize for the best float and are accepting parade registrations ahead of the event.
Beginning at 5 p.m., Fireworks Fest on the riverfront will feature live music, food trucks, a beverage tent and family-friendly activities. Hosted by Keep Muscatine Beautiful, the festival will remain open through the evening’s fireworks display.
The patriotic program continues at 8 p.m. at Pearl City Station with a reading of the Declaration of Independence, an Honor Guard presentation and a special message from Mayor Brad Bark.
At 8:20 p.m., the Muscatine Symphony Orchestra will perform a selection of patriotic music before the evening concludes with a synchronized fireworks and bridge lights show at approximately 9:30 p.m. along the Mississippi River. The display commemorates America’s 250th birthday and will feature fireworks coordinated with the bridge lighting and synchronized music for a memorable finale.
Spectators can enhance their fireworks experience by tuning in to MC 93, Muscatine’s Choice for Music, at 93.1 FM, which will provide a synchronized soundtrack for the fireworks display. The specially coordinated music is designed to complement the pyrotechnics and bridge lights show along the Mississippi River, creating an immersive patriotic celebration.
The community is encouraged to bring family and friends to enjoy the day’s events celebrating the nation’s history and Muscatine’s hometown spirit.
