The Muscatine Art Center will host a public reception Thursday, Sept. 10, to welcome new director Kelly Lao to the community.
The event will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Muscatine Art Center, 1314 Mulberry Ave. The reception is free and open to the public and is being held in partnership with the Greater Muscatine Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Attendees will have an opportunity to meet Lao, learn more about her vision for the Muscatine Art Center and connect with local residents, arts supporters and community stakeholders.
“I believe museums have the power to spark creativity, bring people together across generations and cultures, and serve as dynamic spaces where art, history, and community can intersect,” Lao said.
The evening will include light refreshments, hors d’oeuvres and conversation. Formal remarks are scheduled for 6 p.m.
Guests can also explore the current exhibition, Muscatine and the Civil War, which will remain open during the reception.
Lao began her role as director of the Muscatine Art Center Aug. 3.
