After years of serving animals and pet owners throughout the Muscatine area, It Takes A Village Animal Rescue & Resources has announced the permanent closure of its rescue and clinic operations.
The organization shared the news in a heartfelt message to supporters, describing the decision as one reached after “much reflection.”
“This is not the ending we had hoped for, but we are incredibly proud of what we accomplished together,” the organization said.
Since its founding, It Takes A Village has played a significant role in animal welfare across eastern Iowa, helping thousands of animals receive medical care, find permanent homes, and access affordable veterinary services. The nonprofit also became known for its network of volunteers, foster families, donors, and community partners who worked together to improve the lives of companion animals.
In its announcement, the organization expressed gratitude to the many individuals who supported its mission over the years.
“To everyone who adopted, donated, volunteered, shared our posts, attended our events, or simply believed in our mission—thank you,” the statement read. “Every life we touched was possible because of you.”
The rescue highlighted the lasting impact of its work, noting that while operations are ending, the animals helped and families served throughout the years will remain part of its legacy.
The closure marks the end of a chapter for an organization that became a familiar name among animal advocates in Muscatine and surrounding communities. Through adoptions, low-cost services, educational outreach, and community partnerships, It Takes A Village sought to address both animal welfare and the challenges faced by pet owners in need.
While the organization did not provide specific details on the reasons for the closure, its leadership emphasized pride in the accomplishments achieved with community support.
“While this chapter is coming to an end, the impact we made together will continue in every animal helped and every family strengthened along the way,” the organization said.
The announcement prompted an outpouring of appreciation on social media from adopters, volunteers, and supporters who shared stories of pets whose lives were changed through the organization’s efforts.
For many in the Muscatine area, the legacy of It Takes A Village Animal Rescue & Resources will be measured not only by the thousands of animals it helped, but also by the community of compassionate supporters it built along the way.
