October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month, and Muscatine-based Crossroads, Inc., is working with local businesses to expand inclusive employment opportunities for people with disabilities across Muscatine and Cedar counties. Under this year’s national theme, “Celebrating Value and Talent,” Crossroads is highlighting its Supported Employment Program, which connects job seekers with diverse physical, sensory and neurodivergent traits with local employers seeking dependable employees.

The program provides ongoing support to both workers and businesses to help build successful, long-term employment relationships.

“Everyone deserves the opportunity to work, contribute, be valued for their abilities,” said Abbey Webb, Crossroads’ Supported Employment Manager. “For someone with a disability, a job can mean so much more than a paycheck. It can mean independence, confidence, friendship and a pride that comes with being a part of a team.”

Crossroads is also expanding its services with help from a $200,000 HNI Charitable Foundation grant to renovate a new Day Habilitation facility on Lucas Street, which will double capacity and provide additional skill-building opportunities.

Muscatine Mayor Brad Bark proclaimed October Disability Employment Awareness Month during the Oct. 20 City Council meeting, with Crossroads CEO Marc Hines, Development Director Kenneth Brooks and Webb present. Local businesses interested in inclusive hiring and customized workplace support can contact Crossroads at 563-263-3545.
