The 5th Annual NextGen 5K Run/Walk for Mental Health Awareness returns Saturday, Sept. 19, at NextGen Motors, bringing the Muscatine community together for a morning focused on movement, wellness, connection and mental health support.

More than a race, the NextGen 5K is a community movement to break the stigma surrounding mental health, encourage open conversations and inspire hope through shared experiences. Participants and spectators can hear stories of resilience from keynote speakers while connecting with local organizations and mental health resources.

The morning begins with race registration, a vendor fair and community yoga from 8 to 9 a.m. Keynote speakers will take the stage at 9 a.m., followed by the 1-mile walk and 5K run/walk at 9:30 a.m. Live music, local vendors, mental health resources, chair massages and yoga will also be part of the event.

Participants can choose between a 1-mile walk, 5K walk or 5K run. Registration is $25 for adults 18 and older and $20 for youth 17 and under, with onsite registration available from 8 to 9 a.m. Medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in each age category for men’s and women’s divisions.

All proceeds will benefit local mental health initiatives, including Micaela’s Hope, Grey Matters Collective and NAMI Muscatine Programs.

Organizers say the continued support of the community has helped make the event possible for five years. Whether participants run, walk, take part in yoga, visit vendors or simply come out to show their support, the event provides an opportunity for the Muscatine community to come together and strengthen awareness and support for mental wellness.
