Muscatine Cultural Alliance to Celebrate Volunteers and Local Arts Oct. 15

More than 15 cultural organizations have come together as the Muscatine Cultural Alliance, a collaborative network dedicated to the performing and visual arts, placemaking, and local history. The Alliance will host its inaugural “Cultural Alliance Celebration: Volunteer Recognition & Fundraiser” on Thursday, October 15, at the National Pearl Button Museum from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Doors will open at 4:30 p.m.

“This event is a celebration of the people and organizations that make Muscatine such a vibrant place to live, create, and connect,” said Jim Elias, Chair of the Muscatine Cultural Alliance.

The evening will feature keynote remarks from Kelly Lao, director of the Muscatine Art Center, along with hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar, live music, and a silent auction. During the program, the alliance will announce the recipient of the 2026 Shirley Jean Drake Great Initiatives Award, which honors Drake’s legacy and her enduring spirit of volunteerism.

While the award recognizes one outstanding volunteer, Elias noted that it also serves as “a testament to all volunteers who give their time, talent, and heart to our community.”

The Muscatine Cultural Alliance includes: Alexander Clark Foundation, Friends of Fairport Fish Hatchery, Friends of Muscatine Art Center, Friends of Musser Public Library, Friends of Old Barn, Friends of Pine Creek Grist Mill, Jackson Concert Series, Muscatine Art Center, Muscatine Civic Chorale, Muscatine County Arts Council, Muscatine County Conservation, Muscatine County Genealogical Society, Muscatine History & Industry Center / National Pearl Button Museum, Muscatine Sister Cities, Muscatine Symphony Orchestra, Pearl City Players, and the Public Art Advisory Commission.

Together, these organizations offer a wide range of enriching programs and events for residents and visitors. Proceeds from the Cultural Alliance Celebration will support future collaborations and help strengthen the work of participating organizations.

Equally important, the event aims to inspire new volunteer involvement, encourage membership, and spark greater engagement in cultural programming throughout Muscatine.
