Most of Riverside Park will become a festival-only area from July 26 through Aug. 3 as Muscatine prepares for several major summer events along the riverfront.
Riverside Park will be closed to vehicle traffic, except emergency vehicles, from the Cedar Street entrance downriver to the small parking lot near the basketball courts. The closure will accommodate Great River Days and the Great River Days Concert Series.
The Iowa Avenue entrance and the downriver portion of the park will close at 7 a.m. Sunday, July 26.
Riverside Park is scheduled to reopen to all vehicle traffic at 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 3.
The upriver portion of Riverside Park, from the Cedar Street entrance upriver to the boat launch, will remain open. This will allow continued access for boaters, anglers and other park visitors.
Pedestrian access to the grassy area between the small parking lot and Millennium Plaza will also be restricted July 31 and Aug. 1 for the Great River Days Concert Series.
Additional Riverside Park closures
The small parking lot at the downriver end of Riverside Park will have additional closures this week:
- Thursday, July 23: Closed for Almost Friday Fest.
- Saturday, July 25: Closed for a private event.
- July 26-Aug. 3: Included in the larger Riverside Park vehicle closure.
American Serenade visit
Riverside Park will also welcome American Cruise Lines during the closure. The American Serenade is scheduled to arrive in Muscatine at approximately 10 p.m. Monday, July 27.
Passengers are expected to disembark Tuesday morning and explore Muscatine from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The ship is scheduled to depart at approximately 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 28.
Residents and visitors should plan ahead for the temporary vehicle and pedestrian restrictions when visiting Riverside Park during the final week of July.
The closures are intended to provide space for Great River Days, concerts and other activities while maintaining access to the upriver portion of the park and boat launch.
