Two Muscatine Streets to Switch to One-Way Traffic for Trial Period

Traffic patterns on two Muscatine streets will change Friday, Oct. 16, as the city begins a two-week pilot project to improve safety and maneuverability.

The Department of Public Works will install temporary signs designating one-way traffic on Lord Avenue between Park Avenue and Fairview Avenue, and on Fairview Avenue between Lord Avenue and East 4th Street.

The change follows concerns from neighborhood residents about tight turning movements at the intersection of Lord Avenue and Fairview Avenue. Residents brought the issue to the City of Muscatine Traffic Committee and requested a change to the traffic pattern.

During the two-week trial, portable Do Not Enter and One-Way signs will be installed to guide motorists through the affected areas.

After the trial period, the Traffic Committee will evaluate the results and decide whether to recommend making the change permanent. Any permanent traffic pattern change would require approval from the Muscatine City Council.

Motorists should use caution while adjusting to the new traffic pattern and follow all posted traffic signs.
