Drivers heading to Downtown Muscatine for the Fourth of July celebration should plan for several parking restrictions and road closures throughout the day as the city celebrates America’s 250th anniversary on Saturday, July 4.

Parking will be prohibited in portions of Riverside Park beginning at 5 a.m. Saturday through midnight Sunday. The restriction includes the area from the Iowa Avenue entrance downriver to the basketball courts.

City staff will allow controlled access for participants and families attending the Free Throws & Freedom Youth Tournament, vendors and performers setting up for Almost Friday Fest, and Muscatine Symphony personnel preparing activities at Pearl City Station.

Boat Launch Information

The downriver boat launch will be closed throughout the day on July 4. Visitors planning to watch the Independence Day program or evening fireworks may bring lawn chairs and use the parking area between the boat launch and the railroad tracks for seating.

The upriver boat launch will remain open and can be accessed through the Cedar Street entrance to Riverside Park.

Fourth of July Parade Closures

The annual Fourth of July Parade begins at 4 p.m., but road closures will start at 2 p.m. along the parade route, including:

  • Iowa Avenue from West Fulliam Avenue to East Third Street
  • East Third Street from Iowa Avenue to Mulberry Avenue
  • Mulberry Avenue from East Third Street to East Fifth Street
  • East Fifth Street from Mulberry Avenue to Cedar Street

Cross streets along the parade route will also be closed until the parade has concluded.

Plan Ahead

The City of Muscatine encourages residents and visitors to allow extra travel time and use public parking areas within walking distance of the day’s festivities.

Drivers should also remember that East Second Street remains closed between Cedar and Sycamore streets, while Sycamore Street is closed from East Third Street to the No. 1 Alley because of the ongoing downtown building demolition project.

MC 93, Muscatine’s Choice for Music at 93.1 FM, will once again provide the synchronized soundtrack thanks to Uptown Motors, for the community fireworks display Saturday night.
