Musser Public Library is preparing for several service changes this summer as officials work to address a projected $104,000 budget gap for fiscal year 2027.
According to the library, the shortfall is tied to funding reductions from both Muscatine County and the City of Muscatine.
To manage the deficit, the library announced it will reduce operating hours by closing on Sundays and ending weekday evening hours at 8 p.m. Officials also said several digital resources will be discontinued, and some programs — including Adult Trivia Night and Pages for All Ages — will be suspended.
Library leaders described the decisions as difficult but necessary to preserve core services, collections and staffing levels.
In a statement shared with the public, the library said each change was carefully considered to maintain the services residents rely on most.
The library has also released a frequently asked questions page detailing what services will change and which will remain available. Community members are encouraged to contact library staff with questions or concerns.
Library officials are also asking residents to share feedback about the importance of the library and its services through a public form linked on the budget updates page.

More information, including the full FAQ and community feedback form, is available at Musser Public Library Budget Updates.
