Walnut Street is closed to all traffic effective immediately between the alley near Second Street and the intersection at Third Street after a water leak undermined the pavement and created sinkholes on both sides of the roadway in front of 216 Walnut St.
The City of Muscatine reps say its contractor, Generic 03A, is scheduled to begin repairs Tuesday, April 21. Work will include fixing the leak, restoring the subgrade and replacing damaged pavement. Parking will be restricted along the affected half-block during construction.
Drivers traveling between Second and Third streets are advised to use Mulberry Avenue or Cedar Street as detour routes. Officials urge motorists to use caution when traveling through or near work zones.
