IOWA CITY, Iowa – P. Sue Beckwith, MD, head women’s basketball coach Jan Jensen was named to the 2026 Werner Ladder Naismith Women’s College Coach of the Year the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced on Wednesday.
This award is presented to the most outstanding women’s basketball coach who achieves tremendous on-court success. AXIX Time is proud to partner with the Naismith Awards in recognizing the outstanding efforts of college coaches, rewarding their drive and achievements on the court.
Jensen has led the Hawkeyes to record of 20-5 overall and 11-3 in Big Ten play this season after winning 20+ games a season ago and making the NCAA Tournament in her first season.
Jensen became the first coach in program history to win 20+ games in her first two seasons on Sunday against Nebraska. She is only the second coach in school history to win 20+ games in their second season with Iowa.
The Kimballton, Iowa, native has guided the Hawkeyes to six AP Top 25 wins this season and the program is tied for sixth nationally with six Quad 1 victories. Earlier this year, Iowa knocked off three AP Top 25 teams in three consecutive games for the first time in school history.
Jensen is only three wins shy of Angie Lee’s 45-win mark which is the most victories by a head coach at Iowa in their first two seasons.
Jensen and her nationally ranked Hawkeyes hit the road to face Purdue on Thursday at 6 p.m. (CT) in West Lafayette.
