After more than a century and a half of serving the community seven days a week, the Wilton Candy Kitchen is making thoughtful changes to better support its staff, family, and long-term vision.

Beginning November 15, the Candy Kitchen will close on Sundays to allow the family and team time to rest, recharge, and enjoy well-deserved time together. The shop will continue to welcome guests Monday through Saturday during its normal business hours, serving the classic treats and flavors generations have come to love.

In another historic shift, the Wilton Candy Kitchen will also take its first-ever winter break in its 165-year history, closing from December 23 through January 31 and reopening February 1. This planned pause will give the team time to refresh and focus on exciting upcoming developments — including the creation of the Heritage Center and the relocation of the historic Sharon Schoolhouse into the Candy Kitchen complex. These projects aim to preserve local history and enhance future visitor experiences.

Founded in 1860 as a confectionery, the Wilton Candy Kitchen evolved into the cherished restaurant, soda fountain, and ice cream parlor it is today. The business received its iconic name in 1910, when owner Gus Nopoulos rebranded it as The Candy Kitchen — a title that has sweetened community memories for generations.

For current owners Lynn and Brenda Ochiltree, who took over in 2015, continuing the tradition of daily service has always been a point of pride. But after decades of seven-day operation, they shared that now is the right time to prioritize balance and prepare for the exciting future ahead.

“We are deeply grateful to be part of this wonderful community and to share in a tradition that spans more than a century and a half,” the Ochiltrees shared. “Thank you for your kindness, loyalty, and friendship.”
