A favorite downtown business in downtown Muscatine will remain open through July 5 after reaching an agreement with the City of Muscatine that allows the establishment to continue operating while temporary structural support measures are put in place.

In a statement shared with customers, the Waffle & Pancake House announced that two support beams have been installed in the building’s basement, allowing it to maintain normal business hours for the next two weeks.

Under the current agreement, the building at 303 E. 2nd St. is expected to be tagged on July 6, prompting a temporary closure through Aug. 6. During that time, the property owner will work with city officials to complete structural repairs required for the building.

Restaurant owners said via social media, they remain committed to keeping the business in its longtime downtown location.

“We want to stay downtown,” the owners said, adding that they will continue working with the landlord and exploring all available options over the coming weeks.

If the required repairs cannot be completed or the building cannot meet city standards, the restaurant said it will begin pursuing relocation opportunities. Owners noted that several potential locations are already being considered if a move becomes necessary.

The business also thanked customers and community members for their continued support during the uncertainty, encouraging residents to visit over the next two weeks while it remains open.
