Extra Hour of Sleep Coming Sunday as Daylight Saving Time Ends

SHARE NOW

Daylight saving time ends at 2 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, so remember to set your clocks back one hour before heading to bed Saturday night. You’ll gain an extra hour of sleep — but the evenings will start getting darker earlier.

When we “fall back,” we return to standard time, which lasts until the second Sunday in March.

The Muscatine Compost Facility at the Transfer Station on South Houser Street will also move to fall hours beginning Sunday, Nov. 2.

Fall hours:

  • Sunday–Friday: Noon to 5 p.m.

  • Saturday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The facility is scheduled to close for the season no later than Dec. 14, weather permitting.

Fun fact: standard time was first introduced by U.S. and Canadian railroads in 1883 to keep train schedules consistent. It became law in 1918, and the “spring forward, fall back” system was standardized by the Uniform Time Act of 1966.

Enjoy that extra hour of rest — and don’t forget to check your clocks and smoke detector batteries while you’re at it
