The City of Muscatine is seeking residents to serve on several boards and commissions that help guide local programs, policies and services.
Openings are currently available on the Art Center Board of Directors, Historic Preservation Commission, Planning and Zoning Commission, and Zoning Board of Adjustment.
Muscatine has 12 boards and commissions that advise city departments on projects and initiatives affecting quality of life in the community. A complete list of boards, qualifications and a PDF application are available on the city’s website.
Residents interested in serving must submit an application by May 1, 2026. Applications may be emailed to City Clerk Cheryl Hilger at [email protected] or mailed to Boards & Commissions, c/o City Clerk, Muscatine City Hall, 215 Sycamore St., Muscatine, IA 52761.
Applications remain on file for future openings.
All submissions are reviewed by the city’s nominating committee to verify qualifications and identify potential conflicts of interest. Qualified applicants are forwarded to the city council for consideration. The nominating committee includes the mayor, two city council members and the city administrator or a designated staff member.
City officials encourage residents to apply for a specific board or for general consideration. While some boards require subject-matter expertise, officials said a willingness to serve and a commitment to the community are key qualifications.
