MUSCATINE, Iowa — Third time may be the charm for the City of Muscatine as the Department of Public Works (DPW) will make their third attempt to complete the Fall Leaf Collection Program starting Thursday (Feb. 5, 2026).

With more favorable weather expected next week, DPW announced today (Feb. 4) that they will resume its fall leaf collection program beginning Thursday.

“With the forecasted temperatures being above freezing starting tomorrow and staying that way through next week, we will work to complete the final round of leaf collection,” said Tyson Wedekind, Street Maintenance Supervisor.

Two Department of Public Works trucks will resume collection from where crews left off prior to the cold snap. Crews will complete Zone 4 and continue through Zones, 5, 6, and 7 until they are completed. (See Leaf Pickup Zone Map)

“Or until the weather forces us to stop again,” Wedekind said.

Residents in those zones can help the Public Works crews by ensuring that any leaf piles placed on the boulevard area of their residence are accessible to the trucks. Once the leaf trucks come past your residence, they will not return until the spring leaf collection effort in April.

Here are some additional guidelines for leaf collection:

  • Leaves should be placed near, but not beyond, the curb and should be within reach of the leaf vacuum.
  • Leaves should be free of tree branches and twigs as they can cause the leaf vacuums to clog up.
  • All leaves must be placed outside of fenced areas.
  • Leaves are not to be placed in the street to avoid clogging storm drains.
  • Leaves should not be placed in the street or extend into traffic lanes, thereby creating traffic hazards.
  • Leaves should not be placed around obstacles such as mailbox posts, sign posts, and light poles.
  • Crews will not pick up leaves mixed with debris, logs, branches, rocks, plastic, metal or glass containers, or any other types of refuse.
  • Leaves should not be placed on City cul-de-sacs, vacant land, or city property except on the public right-of-way along the curb/shoulder area.
