UnityPoint Health® – Trinity and Cancer Support  Community Iowa & NW Illinois at Gilda’s Club are hosting Pink Party with a Purpose, a fun-filled  evening aimed at empowering Black women to take charge of their breast health. The event will  be held Wednesday, Oct. 22, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at The Lincoln Center, 318 E. 7th St.,  Davenport. Doors open at 5 p.m.

The evening will feature inspiring stories from local breast cancer survivors, a healthy cooking  demonstration, a fitness class and games. Attendees will also have the opportunity to learn  about breast cancer risks, the importance of screening and how to schedule mammograms.

“Events like this are so important because they give women the information and tools they need  to take control of their health,” says Lindsey McKenzie, community outreach coordinator at  UnityPoint Health – Trinity. “Breast cancer can affect anyone, but Black women face a higher  risk of late-stage diagnosis. By bringing the community together, we hope to empower women  to prioritize screenings and early detection.”

Black women have a 40% higher breast cancer death rate compared to white women, making  awareness and early screening vital.

“Hosting this event gives us the opportunity to highlight the importance of breast health  specifically for Black women,” says Tracy Singleton, executive director of The Lincoln Center.  “By focusing on education, screening and wellness in a welcoming community space, we hope  to reduce disparities in breast cancer outcomes and encourage black women to take action for  their health.”

Trinity Breast Center is dedicated to prevention, detection and treatment of breast cancer.  Trinity Breast Center has been recognized as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the  American College of Radiology for more than 15 years, providing state-of-the-art technology  and compassionate care in both Illinois and Iowa.

Patients with a referral from their primary care provider can schedule their mammogram through  MyUnityPoint. Those without a provider or referral can call (309) 779-5870 to schedule.
