The Muscatine Area Walk to End Alzheimer’s is closing in on its $44,000 fundraising goal, with organizers reporting that the campaign has already reached 88% of its target.

The annual event brings together individuals, families, businesses and community organizations to raise money for Alzheimer’s care, support services and research. Fundraising will continue through Dec. 31, giving participants additional time to help reach the goal.

As of the latest update, the Muscatine-area walk had 128 registered participants and 30 teams, with organizers expecting those numbers to grow as more people register in the days leading up to and during the event.

Wilton Retirement Community currently leads all teams in fundraising, ranking as both the highest-fundraising corporate team and the top team overall.

The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s is held in more than 600 communities nationwide and is recognized as the world’s largest fundraiser for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. Iowa hosts 19 walks across the state each year, with the Muscatine-area event serving as the final walk of the season.

Join the community Saturday, Oct. 24, at Discovery Park for a morning of connection, support and hope.

Beyond fundraising, the event offers an opportunity for people affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia to connect with others who understand their experiences.

Many participants describe the walk as one big support group, providing a welcoming space for families, caregivers and individuals navigating the challenges of dementia to share experiences, find encouragement and support one another.

Organizers say the event is about bringing people together in hope for a future without Alzheimer’s disease, while helping provide resources and support to those affected today.

With fundraising continuing through the end of the year, community members can still contribute to the Muscatine-area effort and help move the campaign toward its $44,000 goal.

Registration is still open. Individuals can sign up to participate or start a team through the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s registration page
