Muscatine Rotary Puts Service Above Self With Diaper Drive, Polio Walk

The Rotary Club of Muscatine is putting its “Service Above Self” motto to work this fall, helping local families while also supporting Rotary’s global effort to eradicate polio.

On Sept. 21, Rotarians collected and packaged 2,284 diapers for the Muscatine Diaper Bank as part of National Diaper Need Awareness Week. The project followed a presentation from United Way about diaper needs in the Muscatine community.

The club is now preparing for its next service project — one that takes its efforts beyond Muscatine.

Muscatine Rotarians will join clubs from across the Quad Cities for the World’s Largest Polio Walk on Saturday, Oct. 24, in recognition of World Polio Day. The walk begins at 10 a.m. at Vibrant Arena at The Mark in Moline.

The event is part of a larger effort involving Rotarians across 11 states and two countries to raise awareness and support Rotary’s decades-long fight to eradicate polio.

“Whether we are packaging diapers for families here in Muscatine or walking alongside thousands of Rotarians in support of a polio-free world, service is at the heart of what we do,” said Rotary Club of Muscatine President Marc Hines.

Rotary has been involved in the global effort to eradicate polio for more than 35 years. Through Rotary and its partners, wild polio cases have declined by more than 99.9% worldwide.

Community members can join the Rotary Club of Muscatine for the World’s Largest Polio Walk. More information is available through the event registration page.
