Muscatine and Fruitland residents with city refuse service can recycle old tires and unwanted electronics for free during two special drop-off weeks at the Muscatine Transfer Station later this month.

The Muscatine City Council approved the 2026 collection dates during its July 7 meeting. The annual program, offered by the City of Muscatine Department of Public Works Solid Waste Division, gives residents a convenient way to dispose of hard-to-recycle items at no cost.

Free Tire Drop-Off

  • July 27–Aug. 1
  • Up to four tires per household
  • Tires must be off the rim

Free Electronics Recycling

  • Aug. 3–8
  • Up to three electronic items per household

Residents must present a driver’s license or other government-issued ID showing a current Muscatine or Fruitland address.

Landlords may participate by providing a signed lease showing tenant occupancy, labeling items with the tenant’s name, and scheduling an appointment if dropping off items from multiple properties.

The program continues to see strong participation. Last year, 265 households recycled 728 tires, while 213 households dropped off 612 electronic items. According to the city, the program is funded through the refuse collections operating budget.

Residents who miss the free collection weeks can still dispose of tires and electronics at the Muscatine Transfer Station year-round for the standard disposal fee.
