The Muscatine Police Department responded to 24,254 calls for service in 2024, the highest number of calls over the past five years. Despite the increased number of calls, the MPD Patrol Division still made time to interact with the public through Park & Walks and other special details.

MPD responded to 23,475 calls for service during 2023, or about 64.9 calls per day. That number climbed to 24,254 (66.7 calls per day) with May the busiest month with 1,055 calls for service. Muscatine Police 2,021 averaged calls for service per month in 2024.

“Our number one topic of importance is our community that we serve,” Anthony Kies, Muscatine Police Chief, said. “We also know that by focusing on mental health and training we are able to capitalize on our officers who will in turn continue to service the public while being 100 percent healthy and up to date on training.”

One of the biggest challenges accomplished in 2024 was the implementation of annual and critical mental health checks that includes mental health and wellness education, annual wellness check-ins, critical incident training, and cumulative stress healing retreats.

Beyond focusing on the mental and physical health of the officers and the implementation of problem oriented and community policy strategies, Muscatine Police have found ways to bring the community together. These include National Night Out, participating in several Trunk or Treat events, enjoying Popsicles with Police with local residents, hosting an Open House at the Public Safety Building, and appearances at several community events.

Some highlights from the annual report:

  • The Department and the Muscatine School District maintain two School Resource Officers (SROs) who assist in multiple areas including critical incident preparation and training, and the behavior student success team.
