Ronald “Bill” Butler, 93, of Morning Sun, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2026, at the Southeast Iowa Hospice House in West Burlington with his beloved family by his side. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 29, 2026, at 11:00 A.M. at the Morning Sun United Methodist Church, 106 E Division St, Morning Sun, Iowa; visitation will be before the service starting at 10:00 A.M. Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services of Morning Sun is assisting the family. Memorials in Bill’s name may be made to the Southeast Iowa Hospice House or to the Morning Sun Ambulance Department. Ronald William Butler was born June 25, 1932 in rural Morning Sun, Iowa to Everett and Lucille (Curran) Butler. After graduating from high school, Bill joined the United States Air Force and served for 4 years. During his time in the Air Force, Bill was part of the ground power in Guam, Hawaii, and South Korea. After his time with the Air Force, Bill went on to be a farmer and later an Industrial Arts Teacher at Burlington High School, where he retired from in 1995 after 25 years. Bill was also a Cub Scout Leader, American Legion Member, and a member at the United Methodist Church. He was united in marriage to Retha Phillips-Kimmitt on August 27, 1976 at the Morning Sun United Methodist Church. He enjoyed going camping with his family and being with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Those left to honor his memory are his wife of 49 years, Retha; children Kelli (Rick) Miller, Sheri Schagel, Rick (Diane) Kimmitt, and Brenda (Tom) Wyss; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; brother Terry (Pamela) Butler; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Everett and Lucille. Bill’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of the staff at the Southeast Iowa Hospice House for all of their support throughout this difficult time.
