Mary Beenblossom, 89, of Columbus Junction, passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2026 at Sunrise Terrace in Winfield. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 15, 2026 at Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services of Wapello. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 16, 2026 at the First Presbyterian Church in Wapello. Burial will be in Fulton Cairo Cemetery. Memorials have been established for the First Presbyterian Church of Wapello and Sunrise Terrace Care Facility in Mary’s name. Mary Louise Daufeldt was born on October 11, 1936, the daughter of Walter and E. Louise (Stanbro) Daufeldt. Mary was a 1955 graduate of Morning Sun High School and went on to purse her lifelong dream of becoming a teacher when she graduated from Iowa State Teachers College. Mary began her teaching career at Grandview Schools and Letts Schools before spending over 30 years as a teacher for the Muscatine Community School District. Mary was very involved with the Talented and Gifted Program while at Muscatine Schools. She retired from teaching in 1987. On July 6, 1974, Mary was united in marriage to Dale Beenblossom at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Mary was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Wapello where she served as a Deacon, was on various women’s circles and co-founder of the Journey’s Group. Mary enjoyed sewing, gardening and cooking.
Mary will be deeply missed by her siblings, Carol (Denny) Longhurst of Muscatine, Raymond (Donna) Daufeldt of Blue Grass and Frances McManus of Milan; many nieces and nephews; step-children, Duane (Jill) Beenblossom of Morning Sun, Hope (Michael) Reed of Keota and Faith Story of Mt. Pleasant; step-daughter-in-law, Charlotte Beenblossom of Florida; 17 grandchildren, Cindy Martin, Jeff Beenblossom, Tammy (Scott) Starr, Chrisy (Chris) Dunham, Mike Kelly, Diana (Ron) Mairet, Dawn Wanfalt, Julie (Josh) Messer, Jay Beenblossom, Brian (Jamie) Reed, Doug (Amber) Reed, Colby (Aaron) Deao, Jamey (Crystal) Bender, Jason (Traci) Bender, Justin Bender, Shannon Hampson and Jay (Katie) Story; 40 great-grandchildren and 21 great-great grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dale; brother, Lloyd Daufeldt; step-son, Larry Beenblossom; step-son-in-law, Jeff Story and two grandchildren, Mike Beenblossom and Sherry Beenblossom.
