MUSCATINE, Iowa – Marvin Joseph Krieger, 100 years old, of Muscatine passed away April 4, 2026.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at Grace Lutheran Church. The Reverend Susan Bantz will officiate. Burial will take place at Greenwood Cemetery. Military services will be conducted by the Honor Guard of Muscatine City Inc. A time of food and fellowship will be at church immediately following the burial.

Marvin was born on December 29, 1925, in Muscatine, the son of Joseph and Minnie Griesenbrock Krieger.
Marvin was baptized, confirmed, and married at Grace Lutheran Church of Muscatine. Marvin loved Muscatine and Grace Lutheran Church.
Marvin started schooling at the old Grant School on Leroy Street, the old Jefferson School on Mulberry Avenue, moved on to the Junior High School on Sixth Street and Iowa Avenue, and finally to the new high school (old Central Junior High). Marvin graduated in 1944. He was one of the 32 Honor Students out of a class of 235. Marvin played all four years on the high school’s basketball team.
After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army Air Force during World War II. After two years, he was honorably discharged in 1946. When discharged from the service, he enrolled at Muscatine Community College and played on the college’s basketball team. He was the only letter winner on the team, as the other players were not students. He transferred to Iowa State University where he was initiated into with the Sigma Chi Fraternity. He graduated from ISU with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Management in 1949.
Marvin married his true love, Betty Nielson, on February 5, 1950. They were happily married for 60 years until Betty’s death in 2010. They were blessed to have two sons; Douglas, who was born in 1955, and his brother, Mark, born in 1957.
In 1956, Marvin and his father, Joseph Krieger, established Krieger Motor Company. In 1957, Marvin and his father purchased the local Ford dealership. Marvin retired December 31, 2025.

Marvin was known for his historical film of Muscatine. He gave many presentations on the history of Muscatine to the leadership group of the Muscatine Chamber of Commerce.
Those left to honor his memory include his two sons, Douglas Krieger and wife, Susan, and Mark Krieger and wife, Laura; five grandchildren: John Krieger and wife, Jessie; Joseph Krieger and wife, Cassie; Benjamin Krieger and wife, Jenna; Courtney Krieger, and Alison Rauchwarter and husband, Sam; seven great-grandchildren: Kinsley, Maddox, Johnny, Theo, Luella, Shea and Rowan; one sister-in-law, Sally Allen; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
