LETTS-Margaret Ann Carter, 94, of Letts, passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at Lutheran Living in Muscatine. Visitation will be on Sunday, April 19 at Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral Home in Columbus Junction 11:30-1:30 with funeral services to follow. Interment will be in the Letts Cemetery. Following the interment, a time of food and fellowship will be held in the basement of the Letts United Methodist Church. Margaret Ann Carter was born on June 23, 1931, in Moline, Illinois, the daughter of Arthur and Mary Thompson. Margaret Ann grew up in rural Louisa and Muscatine counties and was very active in 4H. Margaret graduated from Muscatine High School in 1949 and the secretarial course at the Pioneer College of Business at Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant, Iowa in 1950.After college she worked at the Muscatine County Extension Office On December 26, 1954, she was united in marriage to Jackie E. Carter at the Letts United Methodist Church and the couple was married almost 70 years. The couple quickly reported to San Antonio Texas and continued a 22-year military career which took them to bases in Texas, Missouri, North and South Dakota. She held down the home front while Jack had tours of duty in Okinawa (1957-58) caring for 2 children and while in Vietnam (1967-68) caring for 5 children. They retired to Letts in 1974.
Margaret Ann was a devoted wife, mother and grandma. She was an active member of the Letts United Methodist Church where she served faithfully for many years. She was a member of the Letts Federated Club and United Methodist Women. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, camping and traveling. She loved making the family home south of Letts the center of every holiday and many summer vacations for her grandchildren.
Margaret Ann will be deeply missed by her five children: David (Cathy) Carter of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; Susan (Cyril) Meredith of Oak Ridge, Tennessee; Jon Carter of Letts; Tom (Teresa) Carter of Letts; Matt (Priscilla) Carter of Dubuque; 10 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, brother James Thompson, sister Mary Lou Thompson, and granddaughter Mary Catherine Rose Carter.
