Ardath Elaine Johnson, 88, of Iowa City passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2026 at the Lone Tree Care Center with her loving family by her side. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 12, 2026 from 3:00 – 6:00 P.M at Synder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services of Lone Tree. Funeral service will be held on Monday, July 13, 2026 at 10:00 A.M at the Lone Tree United Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at the Lone Tree Cemetery following the service. Following the committal service, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Lone Tree Historical Society, the Lone Tree United Presbyterian Church, or the Lone Tree Health Care Center. Ardath Elaine Hunter was born on March 20, 1938 in Iowa City, Iowa to Warren C. and Hildegarde (Lewis) Hunter. Ardath was a 1956 graduate of Lone Tree High School. She was united in marriage to Dale K. Johnson on August 5, 1956 in Iowa City. Ardath was a member of the Lone Tree United Presbyterian Church, the Lone Tree Historical Society of which she was a founding member, Johnson County Historical Society, River Junction Old Settlers, and she was a 40+ year member of the Daughter’s of the American Revolution.. She enjoyed spending time in the garden and canning the vegetables that she grew. Ardath was active in her kids’ life acting as a Girl Scout Leader, Room Mother at Mark Twain Elementary School in Iowa City, and being the unofficial score keeper for Brian’s baseball teams. She was also an avid collector of Precious Moments figurines
Those left to honor Ardath’s memory are her children LeAnne (Tim) Werner of St. Louis, Brian (Peg) Johnson of Iowa City, Lori Johnson of Iowa City and Linda (Dion) Baylor of Iowa City; five grandchildren, Kaily (Josh) Hoard of Hills, Spenser (Jordan) Johnson of Iowa City, Nick Werner of St. Louis, Alyssa Werner of St. Louis and Jaden Baylor of Iowa City and four great-grandchildren, Payton and Declan Johnson and Cyrus and Clyde Hoard.
She was preceded in death by her parents Warren and Hildegarde; husband Dale; and brothers Edwin (Jane) Hunter and Harold (Juanita) Hunter.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of the staff at Lone Tree Health Care Center and Moments Hospice for all of their help and support during this difficult time.
