On Thursday, March 13, 2025, Police Chief Anthony Kies was one of 244 law enforcement officers who graduated from the FBI National Academy, marking the completion of the 293rd session. The class included men and women from 48 states, the District of Columbia, 24 countries, 11 military organizations, and four federal civilian organizations.
“One of the best parts of attending this academy was getting to know the other law enforcement executives,” Chief Kies said. “I have made some lifelong friendships, and the knowledge that I bring home will benefit all of Muscatine. It was truly an honor to be selected for this academy and an honor to represent Muscatine.”
Internationally recognized for its academic excellence, the FBI National Academy is a 10-week program focusing on advanced communication, leadership, and fitness training. To qualify for attendance, participants must demonstrate a proven track record of professionalism within their agencies. On average, graduates have 21 years of law enforcement experience and typically return to serve in executive-level positions within their departments.
FBI Director Kash Patel delivered remarks at the ceremony, while class spokesperson Joses Walehwa, from the Brea Police Department in California, represented the graduates.
Chief Kies has served with the Muscatine Police Department since 2003 and was appointed the Chief of Police on December 1, 2022. His successful completion of the FBI National Academy reflects his dedication to enhancing his leadership skills and unwavering commitment to serving the Maui community. FBI Academy instructors, special agents, and other staff with advanced degrees provide the training with many instructors recognized internationally in their fields. Since 1972, National Academy students have been able to earn undergraduate and graduate credits from the University of Virginia, which accredits all the National Academy courses.
A total of 55,941 graduates have completed the FBI National Academy since it began in 1935. The National Academy is held at the FBI Training Academy in Quantico, the same facility where the FBI trains its new special agents and intelligence analysts.
