The 2025 Muscatine High School Athletic Hall of Fame will add 11 new members Saturday. Nine former standout athletes and two former coaches comprise this year’s class.
The induction ceremony is at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the high school auditorium. The class also will be introduced at halftime (approx. 3 p.m. Saturday) of the varsity boys basketball game against Fort Madison.
The honorary athletes are as follows:
Kayla Gaunt: Two-time first team all-state pitcher, 97 career wins, 2011 graduate
Chad Hanna: Three-sport standout (cross country, basketball, soccer), all-state basketball, 1992 graduate
Joy Hovick: Three-sport participant (basketball, tennis, softball), third-place state finisher in tennis doubles with Ann Backhaus, 1989 graduate
Drake Kulick: All-state football player as receiver/linebacker, instrumental in state swimming title, 2013 graduate
Dawn LaRue: Three-time all-state softball pitcher, won 36 games in one season, 1981 graduate
Barry Meerdink: Three-time Little Six Conference golf medalist, 1958 graduate
Ed Reifert: All-state baseball pitcher, 21-3 record last two seasons, 1956 graduate
Sarah Schemmel: Multiple individual state swimming titles, 2017 Durant graduate
Danielle Wozney: All-state basketball, scored 1,246 career points, 2008 graduate
The honorary coaches include:
Dave Matthews: Head track & field coach at Muscatine 1969-2000, coached six state champions, coached five Drake Relays winners
With this year’s 11 inductees, Muscatine’s Athletic Hall of Fame will surpass 200 members.
