The Muscatine City Council is set for a busy evening on Thursday, March 20, with five public hearings, two proclamations, and several resolutions and requests on the agenda.
Residents are encouraged to attend the meeting, which begins at 6 p.m. in the City Council Chambers on the second floor of Muscatine City Hall. The meeting is open to all individuals, regardless of language spoken or disability. Anyone needing accommodations to participate should contact the City Clerk’s office at 563-264-1550.
The evening will commence with proclamations declaring April as Child Abuse Awareness Month and April 3 as Junior Achievement Day.
Three public hearings will cover upcoming city construction projects, including Phase 6D of the West Hill Sewer Separation, Phase 3 of the Fulliam Avenue Reconstruction, and the Cured-in-Place Pipe-Liner project. Additionally, the Council will hold hearings on the proposed purchase of snow removal equipment for the Muscatine Municipal Airport and an amendment to the City Code to align with the State Historic Building Code. Following the hearings, resolutions to approve project plans and a first reading of the amended code will be presented.
The City Council will also set dates for future public hearings. On April 3, hearings will address proposed City Code amendments, including reducing side-yard setback requirements and adjusting plan submission requirements for post-framed buildings under 1,440 square feet. Additional hearings will cover the approval of alcoholic beverage consumption at the MUSCO Sports Center and a Community Development Block Grant for the Downtown Revitalization Project.
On April 17, public hearings will be held regarding the Transit Division’s application for state and federal funding, the sale of real estate within the Consolidated Muscatine Urban Renewal Area, and a development agreement with Lumber Lofts, LLC.
