The City of Muscatine is inviting residents, business owners, and travelers who use the Isett Avenue corridor to attend a public open house on Thursday, Oct. 22, and provide feedback on preliminary design concepts for the Connect Isett Project.

The open house will be held from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the Musser Public Library, 408 E. 2nd Street. Community members are encouraged to stop by at any time during the event to learn more about the project, review preliminary design alternatives, speak with project representatives, and share their thoughts on potential improvements.

Public input gathered during the open house and through an online survey will help guide the next phase of design and inform future improvements along one of Muscatine’s most important transportation corridors.

Residents who are unable to attend the open house may review project information and complete the survey online through the City’s Connect Isett Corridor Project webpage at www.muscatineiowa.gov/1902/Connect-Isett-Corridor-Project.

The Connect Isett Project focuses on the reconstruction and improvement of approximately 1.7 miles of the Isett Avenue corridor, extending from the intersection of Isett Avenue and U.S. Highway 61 to Cypress Street and East 5th Street. As a key north-south route through Muscatine, Isett Avenue serves residents, businesses, and visitors while functioning as an important gateway into the community.

Proposed improvements include enhanced roadway safety, improved lane and intersection configurations, bridge improvements, upgraded pedestrian and transportation facilities, and aesthetic enhancements designed to better serve the community for years to come.

Prior to reaching the design phase, the City collected traffic data, conducted field investigations, evaluated existing corridor conditions, and engaged stakeholders located throughout the study area. Planning, environmental review, and design activities are funded through a $2 million Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation. The grant supports planning and design activities only.

Construction funding has not yet been secured. The City is continuing to evaluate local, state, regional, and federal funding opportunities for future construction phases. Design work is expected to continue through 2027, with construction anticipated to occur in phases once funding is obtained.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed, review project materials, and complete the survey through the City’s website. Those without internet access may obtain project information by visiting City Hall at 215 Sycamore Street or by calling 563-264-1550.
