What would you like to see changed along Isett Avenue and Cypress Street? The City of Muscatine wants to hear from residents as plans move forward for improvements to the busy roadway corridor.
A public open house is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 22, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Musser Public Library, 408 E. Second St. Residents and anyone who travels along Isett Avenue can stop by to review the preliminary design, share feedback and complete a survey about their preferences.
If you can’t make it to the meeting, you can still check out the plans and complete the survey online through the Connect Isett Corridor Project website.
The project covers about 1.7 miles, stretching from Isett Avenue and U.S. Highway 61 to Cypress Street and East Fifth Street. The route is an important north-south connection in Muscatine, serving local residents and businesses while acting as a gateway into the community.
Plans include safety improvements, changes to lanes and intersections, bridge improvements, and updates to the overall appearance and facilities along the corridor.
The city has already collected traffic data, conducted field studies and worked with stakeholders near the project area to help guide the design.
Planning, environmental review and design are funded through a $2 million federal Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation. The grant covers design work only, so funding for construction has not yet been secured.
Design work is expected to continue into 2027. The city is exploring local, state, regional and federal funding options for construction, which will take place in phases once funding is available. No construction dates have been set.
