The Musser Public Library and HNI Community Center will be closed Monday through Wednesday, Aug. 24–26, while contractors replace three leaking roof sections and install a new HVAC unit. The library is scheduled to reopen Thursday, Aug. 27.
During the closure, the book drop will be locked and unavailable. No fines or fees will be charged for materials that come due while the building is closed. Patrons who need materials are encouraged to visit the library before Aug. 24.
Alley Closures
Number 1 Alley will also be affected by the construction:
- Monday, Aug. 24: The alley will be closed from Walnut Street to Mulberry Avenue for roof-replacement preparation.
- Aug. 25–Sept. 25: The alley will be closed from Walnut Street to the library parking lot drive from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Contractors will reopen the alley on rain days or when access is not needed.
Project Details
Top Choice Construction and Roofing was awarded a $148,653.90 contract July 7 to replace three roof sections. Insurance will cover $34,541 in storm-damage repairs to one section, with the remaining $114,112.90 funded through the Building and Grounds Deferred Maintenance Fund.
Crawford Company was awarded a $245,852 contract April 7 to replace the library’s large rooftop heating and cooling unit. The existing system is failing, and replacement parts are no longer available. The unit provides climate control for roughly two-thirds of the building. Funding will come from the Building and Grounds Equipment Repair Fund.
