Howard A. “Pete” McCleary, 94, of Muscatine, passed away Saturday, August 8, 2026 at his home. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 13, 2026 from 4:00 P.M. – 7:00P.M. at Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services Muscatine. Funeral service will be held on Friday, August 14, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. at Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services Muscatine. Burial will be at the Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery following the service. Memorials in Pete’s name may be made to the family. Howard Allison “Pete” McCleary was born September 21, 1931 in Muscatine, Iowa to Joe and Dorothy (Burroughs) McCleary. Pete was united in marriage to Beatrice A. Wilson on May 14, 1983 in Muscatine, Iowa. He worked at Dewey Concrete, now La Farge, for 40 years. Pete enjoyed working with horses and riding his Harley Davidson. He brought joy to children’s lives as Santa Claus for 15 years. Pete could be found tinkering around the house working on various projects, the quote “Jack of all trades but master of none” fit him to a T.
Pete will be missed by his wife of 43 years, Bea; children Pete (Barb) McCleary, Tom (Pam Jennett) McCleary, Allen (Alberta) McCleary, D*** (Denise) McCleary, Jerry (Diane) McCleary, Mike (Nancy) McCleary, and Jim (Kim) McCleary; step-sons Tim (Ruth Ellen) Snyder and Todd Snyder; 27 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren with one more on the way; his brother Tom (Liz) McCleary; and many beloved nieces and nephews
Pete was preceded in death by his parents Joe and Dorothy; brothers Richard and Joe; daughter Linda Lindle; step-son Terry Snyder; daughter-in-law Jane McCleary; grandsons CJ Lindle, Shane McCleary, and Mike Snyder; and great-granddaughter Natalie McCleary.
