The Muscatine Community School District is inviting families with young students to take part in a Back-to-School Bus Ride Along designed to help children feel comfortable before the first day of school.
The event is open to Muskie Early Learning Center (MELC), kindergarten and first-grade students and their families. It will be held from 4:30-6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, at the MCSD Administration Center, 2900 Mulberry Ave.
The optional event gives students a chance to meet their bus driver, take a practice ride on a school bus, learn bus safety rules and expectations, visit elementary school loading zones, and practice using a bus safety harness if needed.
District officials encourage families to attend to help ease first-day nerves and familiarize students with the school bus experience before classes begin.
Families are asked to register by Aug. 19 using the online registration form.
The district also reminds families who need transportation for the 2026-27 school year to request bus service by Monday, Aug. 10, to ensure transportation is available for the first day of school on Monday, Aug. 24.
