Terrance “Terry” H. Egan
1954 - 2026

Terrance “Terry” Heaton Egan, 72, of Burlington, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly on July 30, 2026, surrounded by his loving children at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.

Terry, the ninth of ten children born to the late William and Maxine Egan of Mediapolis, was born on May 2, 1954. Terry was a 1972 graduate of Mediapolis High School. He married Sherri (Gerst) Egan on December 30, 1974, and they had two children during their 18-year marriage. Terry and Sherri would become close friends again later in life, which was both a surprise and a delight to their children.

Terry worked as a welder for J.I. Case for 30 years before retiring, followed by 10 years at Champion Spark Plug. He enjoyed watching the Hawkeyes, researching his family history, traveling to Ireland, gardening, attending his grandchildren’s sporting/school events, talking politics as a lifelong member of the Democratic Party, and spending time with his family and his beloved dog, Benny.

Terry was never afraid to try new things or make a friend of a stranger. Later in life, he even discovered a love for performing stand-up comedy locally. He was a hard worker and a good man with a generous heart who never failed to help someone in need. He loved his family deeply and showed that love in the way he was always there when they needed him. His humor, kindness, generosity, and willingness to lend a hand will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his two children, Heather (Corey) Egan of Shellsburg, Iowa, and Ryan (Amiee) Egan of West Burlington, Iowa; his former wife and dear friend, Sherri Egan; four grandchildren, Ira Moretz-Egan of North Liberty, Iowa, and Kaylee Martin-Egan, Parker Egan, and Hudson Egan, all of West Burlington, Iowa; four siblings, Judith (Melvin) Kerr of Macomb, Illinois, Katie Ford of Alpine, California, Joan Beauvais of Oceanside, California, and Dan (Lynn) Egan of Burlington, Iowa; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Bill, Pat, and Mike; and his sisters, Julia and Mary.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 7, 2026, at Saint Paul’s Church in Burlington, Iowa. Funeral service for Terry will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 7, 2026, at Saint Paul’s Church in Burlington, with Father Jay Harrington officiating.
