After weeks of uncertainty, there’s good news for fans of Waffle & Pancake House.
The popular Muscatine restaurant announced it will remain open through Saturday, July 5, including the Fourth of July holiday, after the City of Muscatine approved a plan for temporary foundation repairs that will allow the business to reopen in its current location next month.
The announcement follows a meeting between restaurant owners, the building’s landlord, a structural engineer and city officials. The approved plan allows temporary repairs to the building’s foundation, giving the restaurant a path to reopen while permanent structural work is completed.
Customers can continue to enjoy the restaurant’s regular breakfast and lunch menu through July 5.
The restaurant will temporarily close beginning Sunday, July 6, while crews complete the foundation repairs. Owners expect to reopen at the same location on Wednesday, Aug. 6.
In addition to approving the temporary repairs, the City of Muscatine has established a timeline for permanent structural foundation work. Restaurant owners said they will continue working closely with the landlord to ensure those repairs are completed.
The reopening plan marks a positive turn after structural concerns threatened the future of the longtime local restaurant. Earlier this month, city officials determined repairs would be necessary before the building could continue operating safely.
Owners credited the Muscatine community for helping them through the process.
“The calls, messages, prayers and offers to help have meant more than words can express,” the restaurant said in a statement. “Your support has given us hope during a very stressful time, and we’re incredibly grateful to have such amazing customers, friends and neighbors standing behind us.”
Before the temporary closure begins, the restaurant is encouraging customers to stop in for breakfast or lunch and celebrate the Fourth of July weekend with them.
“This isn’t goodbye — it’s just a short pause,” the owners said. “We can’t wait to welcome everyone back on Aug. 6 and reopen serving the community we love.”
