As the community pauses to honor the men and women who gave their lives in military service, several City of Muscatine services and facilities will adjust hours for Memorial Day on Monday, May 25, 2026.
While most city offices will be closed for the holiday, emergency services will remain available throughout the day.
Public Safety Services
The Muscatine Police Department and Muscatine Fire Department will continue normal emergency operations, though administrative offices will be closed.
Residents needing non-emergency assistance can call (563) 263-9922. Emergencies should still be directed to 9-1-1.
Trash, Recycling and Yard Waste Delays
The City’s Solid Waste Division announced several holiday-related schedule changes.
The Muscatine transfer station and compost facility will be closed Monday and reopen Tuesday, May 26.
There will be no curbside collection of garbage, recycling, yard waste or bulky items on Memorial Day. Bulky waste pickup will also be suspended Tuesday, May 26.
Here’s how the revised refuse and recycling schedule will work:
- Monday trash pickup moves to Tuesday
- Monday recycling routes move to Tuesday
- Tuesday recycling routes move to Wednesday
- Wednesday recycling routes move to Thursday
- Thursday recycling routes move to Friday
- Friday recycling routes move to Saturday

MuscaBus Service Suspended
MuscaBus public transportation services will not operate on Memorial Day and will resume normal routes Tuesday, May 26.
City Facilities Closing for Holiday
Several public facilities will close for the holiday weekend, including:
- Musser Public Library
- HNI Community Center
- Muscatine Art Center
Those facilities will be closed Sunday, May 24, and Monday, May 25, before reopening Tuesday.
All city administrative offices will also reopen at 8 a.m. Tuesday, May 26.
