Nicholas Chad Hannig was born on December 13, 2000 in Peoria, Illinois, the son of Jessica Willhoite and Bret Hannig. He was a 2019 graduate of Davenport West High School. Nick had most recently been employed at Berry Global (formerly Letica) at Progress Park. Prior to his employment at Berry, he had spent several years at the Muscatine Hy-Vee and remained close with many of those coworkers. Nick loved sports - watching WWE and especially following the Iowa Hawkeyes, Pittsburgh Steelers, St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Blackhawks. In his spare time, he could often be found fishing, helping Uncle Pat with projects or working out at the gym - having become a complete gym-rat. Nick was a lover of food, music and truly “brought the party” - he didn’t have to be the center of attention but he loved to be around people. He was the most happy, carefree person you would ever meet and didn’t have a mean bone in his body. Nick made those around him want to be a better person just because of those qualities.
Nick will be deeply missed by his mother, Jessica (Gary) Gafeller of Muscatine; sisters, Abbi (Noah) Hannig of East Moline, Casey Hannig of Somonauk, Illinois; step siblings, Korie (Breanna) Gafeller of Maquoketa and Aarin Smith of Muscatine; niece, Paesyn; grandmother, Neva (Bud) Watson of Manito, Illinois; grandfather, Steven Hannig of Pekin, Illinois; uncle Pat (Jillian) Willhoite of Muscatine and uncle, Steve (Rikki) Hannig, Jr. of Pekin, Illinois; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Nick was preceded in death by his grandparents, Michael and Ruth Willhoite; aunt, Wendi and Walter Crowder and uncle Chad Hannig.
