Avenue Subs Isn’t Gone — It’s Getting a Fresh Start in Downtown Muscatine

If you thought Avenue Subs had quietly disappeared for good, think again — the beloved sandwich shop is gearing up for a comeback, and it’s staying right where it belongs: at a new location in downtown Muscatine.

After an unexpected closure that left both customers and staff disappointed, owner Brad Kisner says the ending wasn’t what anyone had planned.

In a social media message shared with followers, Kisner explained that efforts to reopen in the original building — or even relocate — hit a wall after ongoing challenges with repairs and logistics.

“It came to a point where I had to accept it wasn’t going to be,” Kisner said. “Time to move on.”

But that wasn’t the end of the story.

Kisner says he’s since connected with a local entrepreneur who plans to bring Avenue Subs back to life — with a focus on preserving what made it special in the first place.

The new ownership group intends to recreate the shop “just the way we left it,” Kisner said, adding that both he and Mary have entrusted them with the vision they built from the ground up.

First opened in 2010, Avenue Subs quickly became a go-to stop for sandwiches and a staple in the downtown community. Now, it’s poised to begin a new chapter with the same energy that helped it grow a loyal following.

Kisner will also play a role in the transition, helping the new owners get up and running smoothly.

“I hope you’ll show the same enthusiasm you’ve had since we opened,” he said.

While details about the exact location and reopening date haven’t been announced yet, one thing is clear — Avenue Subs isn’t gone for good. It’s just getting ready for its next chapter.

So, Muscatine… get ready.

It might not be long before you’re back in line, sleeves rolled up, ordering your favorite sub all over again.
