The Muscatine City Council will conduct two public hearings and swear in a new firefighter during its February 6 meeting. Budget discussions are also underway for City of Muscatine staff and the Muscatine City Council with another session scheduled shortly after the regular Council meeting.
The public is welcomed, and encouraged, to attend when the Council meets at 6 p.m. Thursday in the City Council Chambers on the second flood of Muscatine City Hall. The meeting is open to all individuals regardless of language spoken or disability. Both public hearings are in regards to zoning changes to the area of Muscatine Community College. The first public hearing, and subsequent first reading of the amended ordinance, concerns the rezoning of 2.5 acres of the MCC property from R-3 single-family residence to C-1 neighborhood and general commercial. The second public hearing, and subsequent first reading of the amended ordinance, regards the creating of a CF-Community Facility District.
The meeting will open with Mayor Brad Bark swearing Ben Krieger into service with the Muscatine Fire Department.
The Council is also scheduled to approve the use of city property for the 45th Melon City Criterium on May 25, a Class of 1985 class region on August 22, and the Muscatine Triathlon on August 2.
The Council is also scheduled to approve:
- Setting a public hearing on Feb. 20 on amendments to the greenwood Cemetery Rules and regulations;
- Setting a public hearing on Feb. 20 for comments on removing the City Ordinance prohibiting those of 14 years of age from fishing in the Weed Park Lagoons; and,
- Approve a purchase order with Mid-American Sports Construction for the MUSCO Sports Center field logos.

The budget discussions meeting will not be available on the internet or cable television.
