On November 29th, Kourtney Drake became the fifth Wilton Junior-Senior High School athlete and its second basketball player to sign a letter of intent to continue her athletic career in college. At a ceremony attended by her parents, sister, grandparents, and coaches, Drake officially signed to play basketball at Kirkwood Community College next school year.
Looking back over her high school career, one can easily see why Kirkwood wanted to secure Drake as a player. Drake played on Wilton’s varsity basketball team all four years of high school. Impressively, she started every game the team played, beginning with her first game freshman year. Drake made the All-Conference First Team her freshman and sophomore years of high school, and the Elite All-Conference Team her junior year. She also made the Academic All-Conference Team her freshman, sophomore, and junior years. This season, Drake passed the 1,000 points scored mark in Wilton’s game against Durant on December 3rd.
As Drake finishes her high school basketball career and looks forward to her first season at Kirkwood, her coach, Jeremy Putnam, shared what he felt made her successful in high school and will help her continue to succeed in college. “Kourtney has been one of my favorite athletes that I have ever coached. She can do so many things on the court. She is also very unselfish and is willing to do whatever it takes for the team to be successful. These traits will be helpful in college and I am sure she will have a lot of success at Kirkwood.” With such a positive track record, Drake will surely continue to make Wilton proud long past the day she graduates.
