On July 28, Rep. Gary Carlson (R-Muscatine) released information regarding the annual Iowa Sales Tax Holiday. This year, from 12:01 a.m., August 5 through midnight, August 6, no sales tax will be collected on select clothing or footwear priced under $100 per item.
All businesses open on August 5 and 6 are required to participate, though the holiday does not extend to Sunday.
“The yearly tax-free weekend is a great way to relieve the tax burden on Iowa families as they gear up for back to school,” said Carlson.
Items included in the tax exemption include any wearable item less than $100 in purchase price. Items include clothing for men, women, children and babies, footwear, and even diapers. A complete list of tax-exempt items can be found at tax.iowa.gov.
