Muscatine County auto racing fans could not have asked for a better night to start off the 2019 racing season. After patiently waiting since August of 2018, car racing enthusiasts turned out on Saturday, May 4th to see the first race at the Muscatine County Fairgrounds this year. The Lucas Oil Midwest Late-Model Racing Association (MLRA) race did not disappoint and ushered in a lineup of races that will keep everyone excited throughout the 2019 season.
According to Andy Carter, Vice President of the Muscatine County Fair, nearly 2,000 spectators attended the Lucas Oil MLRA. Similar in format to an International Motor Contest Association (IMCA) race, the Lucas Oil MLRA featured modified street car and stock car races. As a special treat, Carter also said some vintage cars made an appearance too. “They were quite a draw and put on a really great show,” he said.
However, for Carter, the crowd’s enjoyment of the Lucas Oil MLRA proved the night’s biggest success. “We had a really great response. We really can’t say enough about our race fans who came out to West Liberty. . .. Leaving, everyone said it was a great night,” he proudly recalled.
This year, the Muscatine County Fairgrounds look forward to hosting three more races. This week on Saturday, May 18th, Modified Madness will come to West Liberty. Featuring a host of modified street cars, fans can enjoy hot laps at 6:30 pm and racing beginning at 7:00 pm.
Next, on August 10th, the Muscatine County Fairgrounds welcomes Midsummer Madness. Showcasing modified street cars, modified sports cars, IMCA cars, and stock cars, this event will feature something for everyone. Once again, fans can enjoy hot laps at 6:30 pm and racing at 7:00 pm.
To close out the 2019 racing season, the Deery Brothers Thunder Series will visit the Muscatine County Fairgrounds on August 24th. Although officials have not set a schedule for this race, attendees will have opportunities to watch IMCA late model, modified street, modified sport, IMCA street, and stock cars race at this major event.
