On Tuesday, December 18th, the Muscatine Girls’ basketball fell to the Bettendorf Bulldogs 65-56. The loss brings the Muskie girls’ record to 2-8 overall and 2-5 in the Mississippi Athletic Conference (MAC).
Bettendorf started the game white hot, scoring three consecutive three-point shots. The Muskies answered, but only managed to make a two-point shot. The Bulldogs continued their scoring streak, ending the first quarter with a score of 21-14.
As the second quarter wore on, the Bulldogs continued racking up points, outscoring the Muskies 18-3. At two points, they stretched their lead to nineteen points above the Muskies and ended the quarter with a score of 39-22. However, a late layup by the Muskie’s Kayla Scholz shored up the score somewhat.
The Bulldogs went on another furious scoring run in the third quarter, once again setting themselves nineteen points ahead of the Muskies. They ended the quarter with a score of 47-28.
However, over the course of the fourth quarter, the Muskies did make a famous rally. They went on a tremendous fifteen-point run, bringing the score to 49-43, only six below Bettendorf. However, the team simply could not sustain it, and the Bulldogs won the night with a score of 65-56.
Alicia Garcia became the night’s CBI Bank and Trust Offensive Player of the Game for leading the Muskies in scoring with 22 points. Emily Woepking and Macey Rogers both earned Buffalo Wild Wings Defensive Player of the Game for blocking Davenport’s Kylie Wroblewski and making good turnovers and fifty fifties respectively.
