After a positive start to the FFA season at the Sub-District Contests in February, the Muscatine FFA team kept the momentum going. At the District Contests on Saturday, March 9th in Lone Tree, Muscatine FFA members advanced to the State Contests in the following categories:
Individual Ag Sales: Alley Gray (2nd Gold)
Parliamentary Procedure: Sophie Crook, Brooke Horton, Alexis Moeller, Josh Robinson, Andrew VanNice, and Jamie Sprague (2nd Gold)
Radio Broadcasting: Jocee Boynton (1st Gold)
Several Muscatine FFA members also placed as alternates to the State Contests:
Chapter Website: Dailyn Garrett (Gold)
Ag Impact: Ciara Burkamper, Bob Carver, Kiya Dixon, Emily King, and Isabella Zigament (3rd Gold)
Though not every group from Muscatine FFA moved on to the State Contests, many still scored highly. They include the following:
Ag CSI: Caleb Buckwalter, Danika Garrett, Will Hickman, Weston Kirby, and Becca Potter (4th Silver)
Creed Speaking: Jaiden Schmelzer (Silver)
Extemporaneous Speaking: Hope Reichert (Gold)
Greenhand Test: Ava Daufeldt (Silver), Jessie Salazar (Silver), Riley Webber (Gold), and Grace Williams (Gold)
Job Interview: Alli Youngbauer (Gold)
Manual Quiz: Belinda Brain (Silver)
Prepared Public Speaking: Hannah Spies (Silver)
Welding Team: Patrick Pendleton and Crew Schleisman (1st Gold) Individually, Pendleton earned 3rd Gold, and Schleisman earned 2nd Gold.
In addition to the District Competitions, the Southeast District also held elections for its officers. Andrew VanNice ran for District FFA Secretary and gave a rousing speech to a gym full of delegates. Ava Daufeldt and Grace Williams served as Muscatine’s delegates, helping to vote in this year’s new officers.
FFA leaders Josh Day, Sam Paul, Dave Tometich, and Ashley Wiebe shared that they feel proud of all their students who participated in the FFA District Contests this year and all the effort they put into them. They would like to thank Lone Tree for hosting the event, parents for allowing the FFA instructors to work with their children, and all the people who have given a moment of their time to help them prepare the next generation of agriculturists. The Muscatine FFA appreciates all the community’s support.
