Even though the 2019-2020 school year does not begin for another seven months, parents of four-year olds should mark their calendars. Beginning at 8:00 am on January 15th, parents of four-year olds can register their children for four-year-old preschool at Muscatine Community School District’s (MCSD’s) new Early Learning Center (ELC).
Currently, MCSD has registration for tuition free four-year-old preschool scheduled to open on January 15th and 16th. To register, parents will need to complete an online registration at www.muscatine.k12.ia.us by opening the, “For Parents and Students,” tab and then clicking on the “Enrollment and Registration” link. Or, parents may visit the board office, located at 2900 Mulberry Avenue, in person on January 15th or 16th between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm, to complete all necessary paperwork. On January 16th, parents can also register for four-year-old preschool at the Muscatine Community YMCA at 1823 Logan Street between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm. By offering multiple methods and locations to register at, MCSD hopes to make the enrollment process as convenient as possible. Because MCSD has only limited spots available, they recommend registering children as early as possible to ensure they get a spot.
In order to register a four-year-old preschool student, parents or guardians must provide copies of their child’s birth certificate and immunization records. Only students who have turned four on or before September 15th of 2019 can apply for four-year-old preschool this year.
As MCSD transfers all its preschool classes to the ELC, they will continue to work with several Community Partner preschools for the 2019-2020 school year. At this time, MCSD will not offer three-year-old preschool for general education students. MCSD encourages anyone interested in enrolling their three-year-old in three-year-old preschool to contact a Community Partner organization, which includes: A Child’s Place, Guardian Angels, Happy Time, Head Start, and Wonder Years. These organizations will have available spots for three-year olds and can provide more information for how to enroll students.
Once the ELC opens in August, it will operate on the same schedule as the rest of the schools in Muscatine to help parents and guardians of students in multiple buildings keep track of schedules. Additionally, the ELC will also serve lunch and offer meals for all students, including those qualified for free or reduced lunch. For interested families, MCSD will offer tours of the ELC and provide more information about its services in August.
