The Muscatine Area Council on Youth Leadership (MACYL) recognizes four area high school seniors, Eliana Berry of Durant High School, Charles Martin of Wilton High School, Jacob Nietfeldt of Durant High School, and Mariah Pugh of Louisa-Muscatine Junior/Senior High School for their participation at Town Meeting on Tomorrow (TMOT) in mid-October. TMOT provides a four-day youth leadership conference organized in conjunction with Washington University and held in St. Louis, Missouri. Students from across the U.S. attend TMOT each year; the National Council on Youth Leadership (NCYL) chapters including MACYL, pay for their members to attend.
Now in its 18th year, MACYL has involved over 1,600 students in its program. It has awarded 170 scholarships totaling $46,500 and has underwritten travel and attendance costs to enable seventy-six MACYL representatives to participate, expense-free, in the annual TMOT.
