Holly Thomas-Kohler and Angie Johnson discussing Imagine the Amazing on KWPC’s Moving Forward program.

From new playground equipment to fresh resources for health classes, schools always need money to keep their health and wellness facilities in tip-top shape. Now, UnityPoint Health, has an opportunity for schools to win money to help them meet exactly those needs with their Imagine the Amazing contest.
Holly Thomas-Kohler, director of the Trinity Muscatine Foundation, explained “Imagine the Amazing is a school contest. UnityPoint, which is Trinity Muscatine’s parent company, is pushing this out. They are offering the school with the most votes $25,000 to be spent on a health or wellness effort in the school. The schools eligible are all schools in the UnityPoint service area, so all of Iowa, as well as parts of Illinois, Wisconsin, Nebraska, and South Dakota.” This means all schools, K-12, in the Durant, Louisa-Muscatine, Muscatine, West Liberty, and Wilton Community School Districts, as well as private schools such as Saints Mary and Mathias Catholic School, can compete for a chance to win the $25,000 grand prize. Additionally, ten runner-up schools will win $1,000 to put towards a small health and wellness-oriented project.  Thomas-Kohler applauds UnityPoint for creating the contest, and the role its donations will play in the community. “Although UnityPoint isn’t necessarily in the business of education, they understand the value of education to bring health and wellness into the community,” she reflected.
In order for a school to win, it must receive the most votes from local community members. Fortunately, Thomas-Kohler found from experience that, “it’s really easy to vote. People don’t have to write an essay about why they love their school or anything like that. It’s a simple click. Voting starts September 17th and goes through the 30th. You can vote up to one time, per hour, per device. If you have a smartphone, a laptop, and a desktop, you could vote four times in an hour!”
Angie Johnson, the Interim Vice President of Human Resources and Executive Director of Trinity Muscatine, hopes that the ease of voting will get many community members on board and help bring the $25,000 to a Muscatine County school. She feels having a local school win the grand prize would sent a strong message throughout the community. “This [contest] is really to show how much our kiddos matter. They really matter to make a difference to the future, today [and] tomorrow—and, we really want to give $25,000 to one of our local schools.”
With the Imagine the Amazing contest underway, residents of Muscatine county now have the power to bring $25,000 of health and wellness related materials, projects, or programs to one of their local schools. Whether you have students in school now or want to support your Alma Mater, show your support by logging on and voting each day for the school you want to make the amazing a reality for.
