MUSCATINE, Iowa – A single family residence was damaged by fire Sunday afternoon.

The Muscatine Joint Communications Center (MUSCOM) received a 911 call at 2:11 p.m., Sunday, April 20, of a house on fire at 1507 Washington Street, Muscatine, Iowa. Fire crews could see fire in the rear of the single family house upon arrival that had extended into the main portion of the residence.

Crews initiated a fire attack to ‘knock down’ the main body of fire, and then continued to overhaul the rest of the residence to ensure the fire was completely out,. The fire was was under control about 40 minutes after initial arrival. There was fire damage throughout the rear of the building and water and smoke damage throughout the rest of the structure.

The on scene investigation is complete. A cause has not been determined, but it does not appear to have been intentional at this time. The fire and smoke loss estimate is approximately $50,000 to the structure and near total loss of the contents.

A civilian on scene was assessed by first responders due to smoke exposure, but no treatment or transport was necessary.  One fire fighter suffered a minor injury.

The Muscatine Fire Department was assisted by the Fruitland Volunteer Fire Department and the Muscatine Police Department. Approximately 15 fire fighters responded to the fire, including off duty personnel.
